End-line Study of the Project “Literacy Boost” in Baglung (2015)

End-line Study of the Project “Literacy Boost” in Baglung (2015)

The Literacy Boost program by Save the Children in Baglung district, Nepal, addresses educational challenges among marginalized groups, such as girls, Dalit children, and children with disabilities, despite significant national literacy improvements. It focuses on introducing language instruction methods in grades one to three, increasing language competency of the targeted children in the five standard literacy Boost sub-skills (phonological awareness, letter knowledge, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension) as well as in writing, improving reading habits of children, increasing parental support for children to read at home and attend school, and improving the monitoring along with the accountability systems of the targeted schools.
The end-line evaluation of the intervention done by NIRT for early-grade students assessed key competencies like letter recognition, reading fluency, comprehension, and numeracy, comparing them against baseline indicators. It also evaluated teacher performance and parental involvement in fostering reading habits. The assignment, utilizing Literacy Boost Assessment Tools by Save the Children, focuses on assessing the language and mathematics skills of Grade 2 and Grade 3 students, analyzing families’ socio-economic backgrounds, and evaluating the learning environment in Literacy Boost classrooms: with an outcome including an end-line report with an analytical section.
