The primary objective of this assessment was to “highlight the situation of out-of-school children (OOSC) in selected districts and provide recommendations to shape future UNICEF support to government (central, regional and district levels) to improve non-formal education (and if applicable, formal education) in these districts”. Out of the 12 UNICEF working districts, Bajhang, Bajura, Baitadi and Doti from the far western development region was selected for the study. VDC/Municipalities for the assessment in each of the districts were selected based on the highest number of OOSC reported in the census data. Major stakeholders such as the schoolteachers, students, parents, and SMC members were interviewed using appropriate tools and procedures. A total of more than 400 participants were consulted through FGD and KII tools.
